The hedonists are the quintessential conformists to some extent.
Your comment "you can't disrupt the world if you aren't continuously disrupting your own self" needs to be framed and hung on the wall above my bed. Damn!
And yes, while arguments should ideally be about the objective pursuit of truth, they are more often based on a darker form of "who contradicts better"—who is able to make others believe that they contradict better.
But yes. I'm looking forward to thinking more about this. Might write about it someday 😊
Hey Arinze. I really enjoyed this piece. It made me question a lot about myself and what I stand for. I think I might be a mix of hedonist and humanitarian as well. I think as much as I am committed to the good life, i care about solving certain problems in the world.
However, I have a question for you and I would love it if you could answer. You said a mix of hedonist and humanitarian was weird and I would like to know why you think so. Don't you think that by solving some social problems, i can get the comfort that I truly desire ??
I think it's a weird mix cos they can be contradictory at times: optimising for yourself vs. optimising for others. I think that can make it weird sometimes. But you're also right. There are times when both of these goals align.
Haha that's completely normal. I don't think these archetypes are mutually exclusive. They're simply classifications that occasionally overlap. In my case, even though I'm dominantly a blend of two archetypes, I also have a bit of myself in the other two. But I'm most dominant in the other two.
I love this!!! And this idea that you can splice and dice “career choices” and the why behind them by looking at paths and archetypes (and something else?? hmmm...) I think I’m similar to you, but with a tablespoon of scholars and 1/4 teaspoon of iconoclast 😁
Can’t wait to see what else results from your reflections on this topic!
Welcome to the mania that is my mind haha. I keep 'splicing and dicing' things unprovoked. But yes, there's probably 'something else'. Hopefully, I'll be able to figure out what that is.
I think I'm with you on the tablespoon and 1/4 teaspoon, but I'm predominantly hedonist-humanitarian.
Thank you for following me on my thinking journey lol 🙏🏾
Nice work Arinze. Personally, I can't help but relate with the iconalist archetype. Though I would say for a long time I had been a hedonist until recent years.
That's very brave of you! The iconoclast archetype, I believe, is rare among early-career folk because it's almost like we 'have to be' conformist to some extent. But I'm so excited to see you choose the less common path. I can't wait to see you shake up the world, Manu! 🙏🏾

I’m echoing this question from Ẹniọlá . Why weird?
Thank you both for reading and engaging!

eg: social entrepreneurs 😇💸
I seem to find a bit of myself In these four archetypes. Could there be a reason why?

Hey Arinze, thanks for this piece. I am definitely a Hedonist, that I am very sure of.
But what do you think of religious people? People with very strong religious beliefs that affect their careers, ambition and paths.
I think they might be of an archetype by themselves too.
